Come on guys, read the article. I HATE that democratic bastion just as much as y'all do. But the article clearly states they are not just putting the plasticware, condiments, napkins, etc into your takeout order. All you have to do is ask for it. No extra charge. No telling you the law says you can't have it. Just ask for it.

This is the very first sentence in the linked article:

"New York City lawmakers have voted to prohibit restaurants, third-party food delivery services, and courier services from providing eating utensils, napkins, condiment packets, and extra food and beverage containers to customers with their take-out and delivery orders unless specifically requested."

I am okay with this. Hell, I wish the elected would actually do something to cut down more and more on single use plastic. No more plastic water bottles, no plastic bags, no one time plastic anything.

They will not though because they are not serious about the pollution or the Earth.

All words, backed by.... More words

Fair, but it's just more micromanagement horseshit is all. Why the fuck are they even concerned with this shit when we have a state with huge problems? Just seems like the house is on fire and they're worried about doing the dishes.

I must disagree with this stance.

If it's so pedantic that the law won't really affect anyone, it's should not be a law.

These little "throw away" laws end up costing the most.

No.

This is not a legitimate government function.

This is a private business decision between the owner of the restaurant and the consumer.

The government has no business being involved whatsoever.

All its really saying is just include what the customer asks for instead of throwing a bunch of shit in every takeout bag. This really should more or less be just common sense rather than we need legislation for it.

Whenever we used to take out order Chinese food, there was always a shit load of duck sauce loaded up in the bag. We always chucked it. If someone wants duck sauce, ask for it.

I can't use straws. I personally don't know how anyone uses them. I hate them. But we used to have a server dump 7 straws on the table for a family of 5 when we ate out. Again , should be common sense to give diners utensils they ask for,.not just an automatic dump.of a bunchnof worthless material.

if you ask for more bbq sauce its a charge

Does Mcdonalds charge for extra BBQ sauce?

It appears more and more McDonald's chains are now charging for various sauces. Charging customers for sauces is nothing new. Many chains have been asking customers to pay for extra packets of ketchup, mayonnaise and barbecue sauce for years now.

But this has nothing to do with the NYC legislation regarding plasticware, condiments or napkins. Totally unrelated. The extra sauce, condiments charge is on the businesses themselves.

Not off the top of my head, no. But, I do know that the huge influx of plastic particles into the ocean, from the disintegration of plastic, is causing problems at the very bottom of the food chain there. That is leading to population loss of plankton, which support the entire tree of like in the oceans. I’m sure that if it has not shown itself yet in diminishing harvests, it will soon enough. I think I got that from a report from the Woods Hole Oceanagraphic Institute - but I don’t have it in front of me, so I can’t be certain of that.
