NYS, first state to issue a moratorium on large data centers - one year long, looking to repeal tax breaks as well

I see this as one more nail in the coffin. I know fo a few data centered proposed and the one by the swamps and sensitive ecosystem is stupid. There is one by me in the town of Tonawanda on an old steel coke making plant that is a great location. The area around it is heavily industrial and has an oil refinery. It’s a closed loop cooling system and plenty of solar coming on line around it to offset the use in electric. The site is super contaminated so not much else can go in there. No homes in close proximity to the area either.

I support selecting smart site for these but a moratorium on them is bad for business and we already are that.

My work is constantly pushing for us to use more AI. I don't do much technical work anymore, but I've been using it a lot for the HR-related work... reviews of my team and my self-evaluation and whanot. Pretty handy for that bullshit. I just feed in a few talking points and tell it wordsmith it for me. Definitely simplified the dumb parts of my job.

Not worth destroying the environment for, but hey, if using AI is part of how I get evaluated, then fine, I'll use AI.

People were all in a huff about 5G service and how it was dangerous. These data centers are the result of 5G. It gobbles up tons of data and requires large back end support.

As I understand it, with the shut down of Nuclear we went from generating 1.6 MW from one plant to 1.2MW for ALL the combined Solar Farms...we needed MORE electricity to sustain the grid, now we have less, and opening a data center would exhaust the system even with the nuclear plant running...We put up with a lot of bullshit from government and utilities, UNTIL there's no power, then the hate comes in from everyone, and believe it or not, both ARE fearful of a pissed off public.
They are placing this moratorium out there to save their own asses from the blackouts that will occur if centers are opened...oh and as I understand it many Data Centers augment their consumption using Natural Gas Turbines, which is fine, but NY said no more burning NG let alone Drilling in one of the richest deposits in the Country across the Southern Tier.
OUR State is operated controlled by absolute fucktards elected by masses of fucktards promised free shit if they'd just vote democrat.

My concerns are NYS is already not attractive to businesses and will this make it less attractive?

I hated the self-evaluations. Boss too lazy or afraid to let me know my standing in how I am doing my work. You don't know if they short change your raise to give something less then you really deserve.
