Drove past there a few minutes ago. About a dozen state police and unmarked cars lined the street. No lights or anything. A few troopers outside. Looks like it happened pretty much across street from the Middle School. Be interested to find out who was involved with this and what the circumstances were that led up to shooting.

Local news reporting is terrible in the Hudson Valley with most just cutting and pasting the police or DA press release.

Pieced together from various on line live reporters (with each detail provided by multiple reporters)

Erik (Eric) Gilmore 40, the deceased neighbor of long time Ramapo Detective Robert Fitzgerald had a previous arrest by Cornwall police for harassing a police officer, resisting arrest, and weapons possession on March first.

The shooting took place at the Detectives front door with his off duty weapon and the body was recovered in the yard.

Neighbors reported a history of conflict between the neighbors, Gilmore was intoxicated and threatened the off duty detective with a weapin at the doorway of the off duty detective. Neighbors also reported that Gilmore has a history of drug use and over-dose.

As a side note, Robert Fitzgerald with over 30 years as a Detective was the subject of a screenplay for his role in foiling a murder for hire case involving a Rockland Podiatrist plotting to murder the Podiatrist's wife.
