POUGHKEEPSIE – Proposed state legislation that would make driver licenses available to undocumented immigrants has the unanimous support of the Poughkeepsie Common Council.

The measure was first proposed by Second Ward Councilwoman Sarah Salem, who said currently, many of these residents are unable to purchase, register or insure their own vehicles.

This is the reason you can no longer use your NYS issued drivers license to cross into Canada or as official ID to board international flight. You need an enhanced DL to do that. The standard DL isn’t considered secure
