No, they didn't. This article (like most articles these days) is misleading. This is actually what happened later that night there.

A man holding puppy was beat up while they protested anyway regardless of the truth. When that happens many of the 'protestors' are heard telling people to not film that (6:19) (presumably because it shows the truth, and they don't want that) as they helped the people who beat him up get away. This part of the story was never in the mainstream media of course.

The transparency the police department showed releasing the video so quickly is to be commended.

This is what needs to happen to ge in front of this mess.

If they had all been doing this for years we might not be in this mess now.

Evidence not coming out for months, long after the initial incident has faded from the news cycles is what has led us here.
