"Save Act" Rejected in the Senate

It's Democracy folks! I knew this would happen. They don't want people to have a voice, only lobbyists and PAC's do. Voting is a waste of time.

I've always been a bit torn on voter ID. Historically speaking, any requirements the government puts on us in relation to our rights has been abused, and voter ID is just another tool they could abuse (and have).

On the flip side, look at the burdens they have placed on the exercise of our second amendment rights. These burdens are blatantly abused, they don't even attempt to hide it.

I always fall on the side of giving the government fewer means to restrict our rights, but consistency is key. IF it is okay for these burdens to be placed on our second amendment rights (which I do not agree with, but acknowledge are unlikely to be eased), then it is also okay for similar burdens to be placed on other rights. So, let's get serious... ID, background checks, waiting periods, limits to how many items one can vote on...

We have to show ID to vote in TN. Nobody cares.

I used to show my ID when I voted in NY. People got offended.

I'd really like to see voting restrictions on anyone that isn't a tax paying landowner, and maybe a basic competency test. Nothing difficult. Name 5 U.S. states and their capital, name the current, previous, and first U.S. president, and then make change for a $20. Just enough to tell if there is a light on upstairs.

Most will give up when they have to figure out the coins. If that prevents them from voting, we can begin to heal as a nation.

There is not an American alive who wishes less government, and less restrictions than me, not one.
But, proving you are an American citizen to vote in an American election is something I support 100%.
Where I live we don't really need voter id. The people running the polling station are Carroll, a retired school teacher from the school next to the church polling station, and her husband Ed. They literally know everyone walking in. They greet you by name.
But not everyone lives in a village of 400 residents.
