Sling set up for AR

What do you want your sling to do ? Let's start there.

Savvy Sling is the best convertable ( single point sling converts to two point ) sling you can buy. You pay extra for it though. [ Savvysniper.com ] That being said, it's not a super-comfortable sling for hiking.

I like the Viking tactic V TAC. Haley Strategic makes a good sling also, but since the V Tac is on work rifle, I just keep it simple.

I personally like the 2 point setup. My favorites are Ferro concepts slingster and the First Spear operator.

The Slingster®

The Slingster® was developed to be the most modular rifle sling on the market. Its rapid adjust rubberized pull tab allows the ability to quickly transition your weapon from securely slung to combat ready.Updated with the new Ferro Concepts Slingster® Pull Tab which improves upon the previously...

Good video from Warrior Poet on sling setups.

Simple 2 point setup works best for me. I like how the Vickers Sling adjusts. Good quality too. I own a few of them. Vickers Sling - Quick Adjust Tactical Sling Used by the US Military

All of the above sling suggestions are solid. Also check out Blue Force Gear. I really like their custom sling builder.

The way he sets it up is the way I have found it the easiest to use and not get in the way of controls.

I used to be a Single Point sling guy. For a very long time I used them. I still have one set up on the White AR.

I have moved up to a Two point for some of the reasons stated in the above video.

I use ones that I make myself based on a Way of the Gun sling.
Quickly adjustable, Light , minimilst, 1" mil spec webbing,

I had a Blue Force VCAS one. Did not like the heavy webbing that they used and the bulkiness compared to the ones I make. My VTAC had metal hardware, plastic would have been prefered . I believe that they use 1.5" webbing . Its a larger sling that may be better suited for all day patrol use compared to the minimalist ones.

I use the push button Quick Disconnects or swivel "hunter style" depending on the application.
I include "Ranger " style para cord attachments for those that prefer that option.

I'm going to start a tutorial on how to make a rifle sling from items purchased on Ebay. I'll show a sewn version and a no-sew option. This is similar to a Proctor Way of The Gun sling. I'll probably post in installments and break up the threads for phone users. It looks like with 72" of...

On another note, what would people recommend for quick release pins? Since I had to fix my magazine and pin it to the body so it can’t be removed, I’d like a quicker way to pop the pins to load it instead of using a side loading apparatus

I use the extended / oversized take down pins.
They have a head that you can grasp to pull them out. Some have a ring on them to pull.

These are on Ebay for $8 shipped.

Blue Force Gear offers the Vickers sling as in Larry Vickers. Mr Vickers designed it, Blue Force Gear manufacturers and markets it.
The VTAC sling is by Viking TACtical.
I can see how one would confuse the two, I only clarify for the OP's benefit.
As for myself, I don't like para cord attachments, seems like it could allow the sling to become twisted, but to each their own.

Too many of the same letters for a product of the public school system to sort out.

The VCAS ( Vickers Combat Application Sling) by Blue Force Gear is the one I had.
Thank you for correcting me. I dislike providing incorrect informstion.

+1 Blue Force Gear Vickers padded sling. Pick up a few QD mounts (may be built in to your stock depending on what you have) and QD swivels too

Podmonkey · Jul 27, 2020

Savy Sniper slings are also quite good.

I swear by the Cross Armory Quick Pins...

Although I WOUDN'T utilize their Mag Release setup... On the surface, it SEEMS like a great workaround for fixed mags, but I REALLY don't think it passes muster in NY..

Voted Best Fixed Mag | QUICK PINS | CA LEGAL AR-15 Parts | AR Legal

Cross Armory QUICK PINS pair with Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG or SAFE MAG 2 for a superior AR reloading system in regulated states. Easier to Operate than standard takedown pins, QUICK PINS provides a one pinch upper and lower receiver release system for MIL spec AR-15 and M4 rifles.
