6-3 decision.
Supreme Court strikes down Biden student loan forgiveness
- Thread starter C3D
- Start date
Now the morons who flunked out of HARVARD college will have to pay the student loans back.
Flavor Flav, Bidens illegitmate son, too.
Back in the day you had to have a legitimate college degree to work for the FED/STATE at most regulatory levels above clerk.
Those who stayed in college today, and became useless, non engineering types, like UNEMPLOYED social workers, psychologists, sociologists, gender, woman studies, Paleontologists, marine biologists, diversity, studies............ HAVE TO FUCKING PAY.
Walmart got rid of most of them as greeters.
Dentists, Lawyers, Real Rocket Scientists, Soldiers, Pilots, Xray techs, Nurses, Med techs, PA's, Dr's got an education and earn the cash to pay.
The rest of us who already paid long ago, got educated and who work/worked in the building trades, commercial fishermen, Merchant Marine, etc can laugh at these...THIEVING, ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, sons of Obama and Biden.
Riots may occur this summer, as "Whitey" done got down on de black man again.

Good decision but this will give the left more motivation and more ammo to say how bad the conservative majority is. This too will have consequences. I’m glad they did it now and not close to election time.
Idk, I'm sort of in the middle and I don't see these rulings as bad things, in fact I agree with the rulings. Loans are loans, not gifts. Even if they weren't, the president shouldn't have unilateral authority to just forgive money owed to the federal govt. That type of action requires legislation.

I think the majority of the independents will agree with you, and probably even a significant number of Democrats.
But, the media is captured by the far left, and they will portray things as if it's only a radical fringe on the right that thinks that way.
Just like they do with pregnant men. 75% if the country recognizes the concept is insane, but to listen to the media you'd think 95% agree with it.

BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court Strikes Down Student Loan Forgiveness
It is not over folks ....
While I don’t think the president should have authority to unilaterally forgive debt, I don’t think it’s fair to gloat and celebrate this as an “in your face, snowflake” moment. I’m sure there are people in this forum who have children, family and neighbors that would be negatively affected by this ruling.
The fact is that colleges, even the less expensive state schools, are far more expensive now than back when I went.
My kid chose a SUNY school for an accounting degree, even with my wife and I helping as much as we can, they’ll graduate with at least 47k of debt. Student loan interest is currently 5.5%, so overall he’ll end up paying about 60k in debt IF he can pay it off in the most aggressive 10 year term. The average salary for an accountant in our area starts at 42k per year. That’s one hell of a millstone to hang around a young adults neck when they’re just starting out, even when he chose a sensible major in an “inexpensive” state school.
If our government truly wanted to help, they would start by passing legislation to significantly reduce the cost of tuition and fees, and cap the student interest rate.
Of course, the trades are always worthwhile and should be promoted more to high schoolers as a viable career path, but if we can’t make it possible for Americans to get a decent college education at a reasonable price, this country will fall far behind.
I guess my point is, I’m not celebrating this moment as an F you to liberals. The majority of these borrowers were sold a raw deal. Told they had to go to college to get a job (mostly true these days, unfortunately), and then made to pay an exorbitant amount just to earn basically the same salary as their parents but with record inflation.
Forgiving the loans wasn’t the solution but the system is broken. The borrowers have my sympathy.

It's stealing money from taxpayers.
Decent people do not want that to happen, even if they get some of the proceeds.
Is receiving Medicare/Medicaid stealing money from taxpayers? How about PPP loans? How about all the money that will was “stolen” from taxpayers during the useless search for the OceanGate sub?
You miss my original point completely. I didn’t say it should have gone through, I was only saying we should have some sympathy for a lot of these borrowers. Seems like that’s something that is in short supply around here. Forgive me if I don’t have enough hate in my heart for this forum.
I don't have any sympathy. I went to college and ended mostly debt free. My loans were a couple thousand dollars which I prioritized paying off promptly.
How did I do this? By working while in school and with financial discipline. While getting my degree I worked about 30 hours a week. Between semesters and over the summer I worked two jobs and 70-80 hours a week. I saved most of this money and used it for tuition and books. I didn't take out "college loans" and go party it up during spring break on that borrowed money, etc. like so many of the people around me did.
I busted my ass to avoid crippling debt. However, I'm not special - anyone could do this if they wanted to. If you choose not to, that's fine, but don't expect me to bail your ass out. You had to know at some point you'd need to pay a loan back. Oh and before you go on about "it was different then", I'm a millennial so yeah the ability to do this isn't part of some bygone Era.
Medicare and Medicare are benefits you pay taxes to support, just like Social security. They are government programs designed to be there for you when you need them. You have skin in the game because you paid into the system. If I could get all the money I paid in on these systems back I would not take a dime from the GOVT.
sympathy should not be confused with willingness to forgive bad decisions. While I can feel sorry for the borrower being dumb, I don’t want to pay for their ignorance and indulgence.
On your last point, You are probably right.
May I ask *when* you did this? Because I was the same when I went to school but things have changed, a lot.
I’m seeing it with my own children. They work and work hard. Maybe not 80 hours a week hard, but I would not ask or expect them to. My son took additional summer courses in addition to his part time job, and I still think that young adults should have time to be young adults and socialize with friends and family (including some time with dad at the range).
Sure, are some of the people who take out those loans fiscally irresponsible? Yes. So are many americans who haven’t taken out credit card debt later in life. They’ve dug their own hole. But the time has passed where you can work your way through anything but community college.. which is also a viable option for many careers, but not for my son who is going for his CPA.
And again, when did I say I thought the loans should be forgiven? I suggested reasonable measures to be passed by congress to reduce the cost of college and cap interest on loans. And yes, sympathy for many of the borrowers.

you took out a loan you pay it back… period.
I'm in my 30s.
Online Degrees and Courses from the State University of New York
SUNY offers 1000+ degrees and thousands of courses online. Search for online and hybrid programs. Low SUNY tuition. Flexible scheduling. Same degree as campus students.
Per above, full time state school today costs about $8,800 per year in tuition and fees. Add in books and you are at around $10,000 per year.
You can basically get a job for $15 an hour anywhere. Even the crap places like Burger King and McDonald's pay more than $15 around me. $15 x 30 hours x 48 weeks = $21,600. I'm assuming 48 weeks for time off for exams etc. And that's ONLY 30 hours a week, no extra time in the summer. Most kids can easily do this if they wanted to.... they just choose not to.
The only way to lower college costs, is to make borrowers pay their loans, and for colleges to lower insane tuition costs due to fewer applicants.
Having to pay back loans will force people to reevaluate their own interests, abilities and goals.
The girls are way upset about this.
I am not heartless, my Grandson had to pay back $200,000 for SUNY, and NYU Law School. He has done it........ and makes it $$$$, unlike many new Lawyers who cannot get work, because they should have gone to sea in the Merchant Marine, or into the military.
I have a nephew who went to Clarkson, but ended up as a well paid X-ray tech. Expensive experiment. His bro went to Colgate--got 1600 on SAT..a waste....ended up in Hollywood in the entertainment industry..he chased KK around for 3 years, as a videographer....big $$$$. Paid off his loans.
Another nephew ended up as a cop..I never saw that coming. Has Crim Justice degree loans, Another Grandaughter is lost..floating around as a sub teacher in Fla...had a job at Disney World.....her dad is rich, thank God.
What lib dork kid wants to WORK, and be a plumber, mason, pilot, X-ray tech, Nurse, PA, cop, soldier, aircraft mechanic, bulldozer operator, surveyor, house painter, factory worker,..nope they unrealistically want to work for the Gov't, Google and FB instead of in the amazon warehouse where they may really belong.
People ought to consider what they like and what skills they really have..............and pursue it, instead of getting a "paintjob"worthless college degree with no skills.

You’re assuming a few things here. One, we live nowhere close to an urban area. My son cannot drive to any school with a CPA program, so he will have to dorm which significantly raises costs, to about 24,000 per year in fact.
You’re assuming a 30 hour work week as well. Ha! Fat chance getting anything close to those hours these days at a fast food joint. He works forty hours here in the summer but near campus the best he can find is 20hrs a week because of his class schedule.
I take your point that if you worked essentially a full time job while going to school and spend your money on virtually nothing else then you *just might* be able to eke it out, but he will be a full time student in a demanding program. I’ve made it clear to him that academics come first. Criticize me all you want for that but it will be no good if he spends that money on tuition only to flunk out because he’s exhausted with no time to study.
I know my son is a hard worker who will pay back his loans and has made responsible decisions, but it should not be this difficult in this county for our youth to get an education. The fact is that tuition can and should be lower, and interest rates on federal student loans need to be lowered and capped as well. The system is broken and it is our children who are suffering.

Black Borrowers Feel The Pain Of High Court’s Student-Loan Decision
Before the payment moratorium, which was initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic, Black borrowers already bore the heaviest burden of student debt.
www.forbes.com
The gravy train has ended.
Better judgement is required to succeed.
According to the link, after 20 years only 6% of white borrowers have loan balances left.............. but 95% of blacks have all of it yet to pay off.

You dont need to live in an urban area. You dont need to stay in a dorm and pay extortion rates. I lived in a 4 bedroom upper flat in North Buffalo. Rent and all utilities was about 320 a month when split 4 ways. I moved to walking distance of campus. I didn't say it was easy.. that's the whole point. Life isn't always easy, but some sacrifices pay off in the long run. It's hard but it can be done - I know this for a fact because I did it.
It sucked, but do you know what sucks worse? 40k+ of college debt because you want to go to school the "easy" way.
If I can do it anyone can. You just have to have the desire and will. There was nothing required skill wise except the will to endure the suck.

Forgiving loans that people voluntarily took out is not only a fiscally irresponsible purchase of votes, its drastically unfair for those of us who DID pay off our loans over many years. I never missed a student load payment in my life, paid it all back plus the interest. Why? Because that was the agreement. Will I get a check in the mail for the total amount I paid back? I think not, nor should I.
Whats next? Mortgage and car loan forgiveness? People need places to live and transportation. How about monthly energy credits? We need heat and power. A democracy can only exist until the people realize they can vote themselves into "propsperity" via public funds. Aka... handouts from the government. From there on out, those people will always vote for whomever promises the most free shit, descending into socialism. The trouble with socialism is that eventually you will run out of other peoples money. You vote your way into it, but will need to shoot your way put of it. See: Venezuela

I read that as they won't work enough to pay on their loans. Unless they are legitimately disabled it sounds like they just need to work more.
No, it's definitely an in your face snowflake moment. The college kids who got their degrees in useless things like "gender studies" (my cousin has a 'master's' in this), literary studies, and other non paying degrees chose their path. They chose to sign on the dotted line, expecting to walk out with a 100k a year job with zero abilities. NOT MY PROBLEM.
I went to community college, got an associates as well as a certification, and became a cop. Didn't go away to school to drink and party and show up for the minimum course work to get my bachelors. I went to work instead. Full time since I'm 19 years old.
If you sign for the debt, it's your responsibility to pay it, not mine.
How about instead of government passing "legislation to significantly reduce tuition and fees and cap the student interest rate" we cap the pay for administrators and professors?
