Eh, this seems like a pretty weak argument. "2A is a right, so firearms or firearm parts should be excluded from tariffs" is a cop-out.

The whole point of tariffs is to bring manufacturing to home soil. If that means increased prices for a while, that's fine... it's a cost of implementing good policy. Seeking to exclude the items that we buy is somewhat hypocritical.

If he wanted to really protect them, he would take the fact that gun ownership is a federally protected civil right serioualy and have the DOJ prosecute *any* state or local officials who violate it.

There's even a special federal statute to use when that is done "under color of law".

Don't fuck around with lawsuits about laws.

Just send some FBI or US Marshalls to arrest any prosecutor charging any of the unconstitutional statutes.

Give that a month or so, then start arresting police officers who make any arrests on any of those statutes.

And don't just arrest, prosecute, all the way. Long federal prison terms.

Same for any legislators who vote for any new laws that violate those rights. There's no exception in federal law or the constitution for state legislators.

Treat it the same way you would if they'd passed a law outlawing worship of Allah.

The Constitution can be changed and it requires a very high bar to do it. Two-Thirds of the Senate and Three-Quarters of the states. That is the only path and one that ensures a super majority vote. Everything else is a violation of both the amendment and the process.

The only change to this would be to arrest the politicians who voted for it immediately, THEN go after those who would follow those statutes and prosecute/arrest due to them.
Lop the head off first. Then it's easier to deal with the body. (figuratively speaking! I'm not advocating for beheading any politician. Death should be a reward, not a punishment.)

I often wonder how likely it is that the military will fracture if a clearly un-Constitutional order like this is made.
The military is a volunteer organization.
I predict at least half will walk away, many even taking the weapons and equipment they regularly use with them.

I am currently at our cabin - well into the woods with a load of other cabins

99% are Republican gun owners………with numerous weapons of every type

We have regular discussions on this topic after several beers around the campfire

They all say exactly the same thing……..if an order was ever enacted to confiscate AR’15’s by force on a National scale

These are all working guys, mostly good paying jobs, married, some with younger kids

Are they really going to get into a gun fight with the Feds or the National Guard or anyone for that matter if the government turns up one day to confiscate their guns

Sorry, I just don’t think that would happen in the majority of cases and believe that would be replicated across the country

You will ALWAYS get pockets of resistance either individually or in “militia” set ups………….but across 340million (or so) citizens, I believe that would be a very small minority, quickly put down by the Government

Basically a couple million people independently decide a line has been crossed, and then they independently pick targets of opportunity.

Basically, imagine a million lone wolf serial killers targeting random supporters of the regime.

The thing about a modern civil war in the US is that it's not a geographical divide. It's ideological, and at most urbal/rural.

That means the divide will run right down the middle of most institutions like police and military.
