Thank you for writing what I haven't thought about since I was an impressionable kid...My Great Uncle and Aunt lived next door, (Godparents) was WWII and was captured and escaped, only to lose a leg after rejoining...His Friends were also vets, and while they didn't speak in front of me about combat, there were words about the state of the World, particularly Vietnam I saw Soldiers that returned, had a Grandfather that served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam that was Medically Retired, and his Son that also served multiple tours in Vietnam...there was a lot to be learned about the World and America's role in it, too bad I was too ignorant not to listen better than I did...TRUTHFUL History is damned important, and it's important that all sides be recorded, and not just that of the victors.
We're on municipal water and sewer so a large portion of our Bill is the sewer based on water usage...I'm looking to sink a well for outdoor usage and presuming the wholesomeness of the water, have it for emergency use...pure water is life without which there is none.
I'm still surprised I have municipal water, living so far from town. The area is dotted with water towers though. The water is quite expensive. Only thing I have noticed that is more expensive here than in NY. That's mostly why I want to figure out what's wrong with the well. When I water the garden in the summer, my bill is almost $400. We have a stream on the property too, but it's farther from the garden than the bottom of the well is. It will be fine for some cows though.
My new neighbors from California.... They decided that they will be getting a cow in the spring, he said I can get a cow and house it on his land, he has a bit more than I do. I think I might take him up on his offer.
It's probably going to be a cow sanctuary. Save the cows!
I'd be fine with a hand pump. It's better than nothing, but terrible for irrigating a homestead.
Water to the house in Tennessee is very expensive.
Same here I’m Dandridge, with my own septic, town water.
It seems very strange that water in the literal desert is cheaper than it is in TN.
We are all on septic as well. Not sure what causes our water to be so expensive.
We have those all over the place where I live now. Was really handy when I first moved here and had no well yet... would fill up buckets for flushing the toilet, and occasionally do a side-of-the-road scrub-down of myself. My daughter was fascinated by this and decided to wash her hair there one evening. I'm pretty sure they heard her screams three counties over (that water is cold!)
