I think it's fair and real to say "Russia" has sustained massive casualties.
However you have to really break down the numbers and analyze them to get an understanding of what that might mean.
Russia has lost a crap ton of people but they are not necessarily weaker.
Based on my own independent analysis my best guess is 75% of their casualties in the past 6 months have been absorbed by the Wagner group and the other 25% in their regular forces. The Wagner is doing the heavy lifting and being used as bullet sponges. Russia could give 2 craps if they no longer have to feed and care for 100,000 convicts . To them they are pawns. Nothing more. They are wasting dwindling Ukrainian resources and inflicting some casualties on Ukraine and slowly but steadily gaining territory while holding a large part of Ukraine army in position near bakhmut. When they end up KIA it's like addition by subtraction for the Russian government and they are replaced by a new conscript convict to repeat the cycle.
Russia is moving more of their regular forces into position in sw Russia and crimea. That will be Ukrainines problem to deal with now.

The problem with escalating, is that it's only a threat if people think you aren't already all in.

I do not think that Zelensky has been a target as of yet. He will be now though. He has had it pretty easy, as wars go. His wife as well, shooping trips to the US and France and other Nations. Flying around like she owns the World. Zelensky playing around on the World stage, all may change very soon. Much of the larger cities have remained near untouched. I think much is going to change, I think the Ukraines, all around the Country and many around the World are fixin to see some serious destruction.

The battle for Bakhmut is pretty much over , The Ukrainians hold roughly the last 1.5 square miles of the western end , some units are surrendering . Hats off to Ukraine for putting up one hell of a fight They definitely left an impression. That had to be one hell of a fight .
I think its going to pale compared to the battles coming this summer , I dont think Ukraine is going to launch a massive counter offensive after all. it may just be smaller . So far they have no answer to the overwhelming Russian artillery advantage.
