Two men arrested for errant target shooting in Livingston County

Deputies responded to McGinty Road in Conesus July 22 for a report of stray bullets striking the ground of a neighboring property.

Investigators found that Carl Engert, 23, of Lackawanna, and Kevin White, 48, of Conesus, were involved in target shooting that resulted in errant rounds striking an adjacent property and putting others in danger.

Engert was found in possession of a rifle without a serial number and an unpermitted Glock pistol. He's charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, both felonies.

Don't be silly now. That's only for more serious crimes like murder, assault or drug dealing. With these types of crimes you get released with an appearance ticket. Anything gun related though, you are screwed no matter how minimal the gun crime was. Automatic bail and jail time. That's the new New York.

Were boolits striking the ground observed? Or were slugs they're bed from soil?

How far off were they? Did they exceed the 500' rule... Have backstops?

But yeah, stupid is, usually stupid does!

It's probably one of those things where they were told a number of times by the golf course to stop, and they disregarded it or were ticked off from the noise/got customer complaints of noise/feeling unsafe.

I know of a few farmers that will work with you if the rear or side of your property is a field if you want to make an impromptu target range... basic stipulation is time of day/week or if someone is out there harvesting. No shooting trash, etc.

I'm sure if they worked with the golf course, they could've worked something out and none of this would've happened.

But alas, we'll never know how it all transpired.
