Where are the parts?!?!?!?!?!?!

[Robin]

I've been looking fo an AR-15 flat top with forward assist upper receiver for a month!!!! I cannot believe the numbers of vendors out there, just went through about six pages of them and found one for two and a half times what I would normally pay. America ain't buying that many guns, I wonder what is really going on!

[Saltwater60]

Who knows honestly. This all seems like a scam to me. I got limited on paper towels again?? No sign and a pallet full of them. Oh and I was buying two six packs.

America is buying ALL THE GUNS!

I bought one about 5 weeks ago from these guys. I had to add the forward assist and dust cover because they didn't have a complete one then either. Think it cost $90 with shipping.

[Edwardteach72]

umm yes people are buying that much guns and parts

[Edwardteach72]

August 2020
3,115,063 NICS performed.

July 2020
3,639,224 NICS performed

Curent 2020 NICS performed
25,934,334 (we still have 4 months left)

2019 NICS performed
28,369,750

Now that only counts FFL sales (which is good because we need to think of new gun sales when thinking of where are all the parts) and yes ffls sell used shit as well but this gives us a good idea since all new guns have to go through an FFL.

But not all new gun sales need to have a NICS, some states if you have a concealed carry license you don't need to do a background check.

But still so far year to date there have been 25,934,334 background checks.

What does this have to do with not finding parts.

1) most websites that sell parts don't make those parts, they just buy from other companies, and yes some do make these parts and sell them on the side.

2) the ones that do make these parts more than likely also make their own lines of rifles and pistols, they are much more likely to stop selling stripped upper receivers because selling that stripped upper for $50 means they don't have the supply to build a complete rifle/pistol that they can sell for $500 (or if its a good company $1,000+ )

[Mosinitis]

Panic buying by newbs and doom and gloom types. This will be followed by price drops and overstock period. The same type of idiots storm the supermarket whenever there is bad weather forecast.

I wouldn't call that "smoking"

Definitely not smoking but for what's out there right now its not horrible since it comes with the bcg. 8 months ago tha was around $280

[Robin]

Don't need the barrel.

[ArmedCorgi]

It's been frustrating for sure. Looking at various sites, even the odd ball shit is out of stock. It honestly seems like people panicked and just bought up whatever they could, whether or not they needed it, could use it, or even knew what it was. They just bought it.

About a year ago these were going for $279 and that included a full lower parts kit with buffer tube, buffer, and spring too. Basically, everything minus the stripped lower.

So, give it to me. I'll even remove it for you, I'm that kinda guy!

[Podmonkey]

When I went into my local shop to pickup my recent gunbroker purchase the place was full of of people that clearly had never bought a gun before. I mean the counter was packed with them. People most definitely are buying that many guns, ammo and parts. This is an unprecedented surge in sales, a fundamental shift towards gun ownership in the modern era.
If the social situation does not improve expect these shortages to become even more pronounced.

And this is why I just brought a thousand rounds of 308 at a premium before the pig snot hits the fan. Rather have it now then not

Been reloading for Around 30 years. Learned during the 90 about people and panic buying. Now I keep a minimum stock age level of primers, projectiles and powder on top of loaded rounds. The only rounds I don’t reload are 12GA, 20GA, 17 WSM, 17HMR, 22WMR and 22LR.

I get email sales fliers from them all the time, got some good deals going on a lot. Pretty damn tempting if I didn't have so much going on.

Starting to see more and more parts available for shipping, but ammo and ammo parts are still being shown as OUT OF STOCK.

Seems like you could buy the complete rifle for that not too long ago.

[Robin]

Stopped in the LGS to see if something had arrived for me. Now I haven't gone there in probably six months cuz I like doing business with one in the next town over, so after hearing about "no guns to be found anywhere", I was shocked to see the display case filled with hand guns and gun barrels sticking up from racks through out the store. I didn't check it out real thorough, in and out, but it sure looked like good stuff, not left over junk.

Oh yeah they are, and breaking records.

[Robin]

Well, I got the one I ordered, the one they said was in stock, the one they said would be three to five months after I placed the order, so they beat their bait and switch by a month and a half. I'm only half mad.
Functions perfect.

[Howdy]

Are manufacturing companies saying anything about when they expect to be back up and running to somewhat normal levels? If not, do they legitimately not know when they'll be back, or are they playing us to keep margins so high?

I'm interested in buying a nice mossberg, I don't know if I trust my current 12 gauge completely. I'd be willing to overpay on gunbroker if I knew that I couldn't buy something new for another 12+ months.
