Hi all, I'm brand new here but I have plenty of transaction history on NY Firearms and FAL Files. Since I'm new and this is a big ticket item I'd like to keep any sales to in person and relatively local.
I found this original WW2 Winchester 97 trench gun in bubba'd condition. Someone had cut off most of the original heat shield, added a peep sight to the receiver, and turned down the end of the barrel to solder on a polychoke. I bought it, cleaned it up, and got it back to military trim with a *reproduction heat shield* (correct 4 rows of holes for WW2 models). I also removed the peep sight and installed a couple plug screws to fill the holes.
Current condition:
Condition when I bought it:
These are obviously a commonly faked item and I've done my research as best as possible. The following evidence has me convinced this is an original trench gun:
Correct serial number range E950324 on receiver and barrel as well as correct 42 stamp on the underside of the barrel.
Correct low comb stock with GHD inspector stamp, crossed cannons stamp, and hard plastic butt plate.
U.S. and flaming bomb stamps on left side of receiver.
Factory CYL barrel with flaming bomb stamp.
Barrel is 20 ¾" from breech face to muzzle
All that combined with the fact that only an old time Bubba would ever be dumb enough to do this to a trench gun and the remains of the original heat shield still on the gun when I bought it are pretty convincing. I don't want to sell it, I won't be sad if no one buys it, but life has other monetary requirements that are more important so here we are.
I'm am offering this for sale for $3800 local to Syracuse/CNY
I based my pricing on completed gunbroker sales. Put together clones on old bird guns seem to go for around $2k. This example of an original WW2 trench gun went for $7k:
Feel free to pm me with questions or offers. I did clean it thoroughly and put a box of 00 buck through it with no issues. Willing to meet within a reasonable distance or at any FFL around Onondaga County. I usually use Risk Breaker in Pennellville, Swank's in Cicero, or Butternut Sport Shop in Minoa. Buyer pays transfer fees. Thanks for looking.
