Governor Hochul Signs ‘Medical Aid in Dying Act’, Bringing Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide to Troubled New York State

The culture of death is still festering in areas dominated by the Democrat party.

Yet another US state is set to implement legislation over the ‘Medical Aid in Dying’ – which is just a disguised name for the practices of euthanasia and assisted suicide.

We have been reporting on this deadly trend, especially in Canada, where it’s gotten totally out of control, as you can read in 5% of Canadian Deaths Are Now Caused by Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide, Killing More Than 13.500 People a Year.

Now, it’s blue New York state that’s going down the slippery slope.

Medical aid in dying allows eligible terminally ill adults to seek a prescription for medication they may choose to self-ingest to bring about a peaceful death if their suffering becomes too great.”

I have mixed feelings about this, but I do see where the can be a need. I recently had a SIL that suffered a long and very painful death, but this new law wouldn't have helped her as she fought it until there was no way she could have been judged competent.
On the other side of the coin, I can see this saving the state millions of dollars in Medicaid and being abused.

[tirwin1]

Canada's experience shows no matter how well intentioned these laws are it is going to be abused. Tragically so.

No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it’s still a pig.

[TEOTWAWKI inc.]

I can't wait to see the commercial for these drugs. The side effects must be terrible.

[Bigfoot]

The slippery slope is very slippery in NY. Because of that alone, if I had a vote, I would vote no.

It's not so much that I'm against euthanasia; we use that option for our pets to be humane.
But I have a high degree of distrust of anything government, and after covid, the healthcare system too. So yeah, I would have voted no.

[MHoncho]

Bigfoot said it well, but this is something I personally support.

People who are terminally ill or just don’t want to live anymore, that is their choice and I’m not sure why we should stop them.

A right to life and liberty to me means control over my life.

Also, I don’t want to be a burden on my family or society just to keep me breathing for as long as possible because if moral ambiguity if I were ever in this position.

I have to come to terms with that as a religious person but

I’m not picking on you but I keep seeing this comparison to pets. Pets are animals and we can shoot animals and kill them for food. To me there is no comparison between humans and animals so I do not get this comparison.
On the face of someone is suffering I have no issues doling them up very heavily or even people choosing this. I don’t believe in abortion or euthanasia because I feel like human life is sacred and should be protected at all costs. Now that’s my belief and if you want to choose differently then that’s up to you and not my decision. Canada has started off this way but has now pushed much further and will let you end your life for any incurable illness. I struggle because a lot of things are incurable and you can end your life for many things. To me they want this because they pay for your health care. Ending a costly endeavor is great for them.
I see the animal thing with gay comparison as well. If we want to allow animalistic behaviors in humans well there’s plenty of things people would not want to happen. Brown bears kill cubs and essentially rape the mother bear to keep their genes going. Would the liberals want this to justify gayness?

The reason the government is doing this is a money thing, plain and simple. They pay for Medicare/Medicaid and this gets heavy users of that off their rolls. It has nothing to do with compassion in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings on this. At the end my dad needed hospice. They use drugs to keep the pain as minimal as possible. While they were better than nothing I wasn't super impressed by them personally. If euthanasia was an option should it be allowed? He wasn't cognizant enough to consent to that so it wouldn't have applied to our situation, but would it have been better then to let him be in misery for as long as he was? I don't know the answer to that.

Frankly, I hope I live a long and happy life. At the end of it I just want to drop dead from a massive heart attack or stroke or get by a bus or something. This slow fade out is hell for the individual and for their loved ones.

I agree it’s about money.

I am 100% against the Government being involved...
\
However, I support the idea of this, 199%!

I will share a bit of personal...

My mom. She is quite ill right now.

She has stage 4 cancer that is traveling through the body; more and more each day.

She has completely lost her memory. Nothing at all does she remember. She has lost the ability to speak. She grunts and moans, that is it.

We had to place her in an assisted living environment because none of us can care for her.

She is a shell of the woman that she was just a year ago. Each day, she dies a bit more. She is dying alone. I cannot imagine what she is going through.

Many years back, because we are very open about death, she had stated that she would not want to go through life the way she is now.

In her state though, end of life decisions are removed from the person.

Sorry to hear this and I completely understand where you are coming from. I saw it with my grandpa and my other grandma.

Sorry to hear this and I completely understand where you are coming from. I saw it with my grandpa and my other grandma.

My wife, children and I have discussed this many times.

They know that I will NOT! be going into a home.

I will end myself when I deem the time to be correct.

No ones decision but mine.

Thank you./

Can we get Chatty Kathy to demonstrate it for us ?

Just be sure you do it in a way your family still gets the life insurance. I understand this, I do. Homes are no place to be.

Distraught family blasts Canada for euthanizing son, 26, who suffered from 'seasonal depression'

A family has accused Canada's laws of 'killing the disabled and vulnerable' months after their son, who suffered from seasonal depression, died by assisted suicide.

Kiano Vafaeian, a 26-year-old blind man with Type 1 diabetes, died in December using Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) program, which allows patients with 'grievous and irremediable' medical conditions to request a lethal drug.

Eligibility was expanded in 2021 to include people with chronic illnesses, disabilities and, pending parliamentary review, potentially individuals with certain mental health conditions.

None of the governments business to begin with. From cradle to grave, everything in between and beyond, this state has their nose up your ass sniffing for two things, power and money. Personal liberty be damned.

[Cavalry]

I have no problem with this and I think they should expand it with very loose regulation, reasons or time limits, like none. If you are so sad you don't want to be here but are too chickenshit to do it yourself properly then by all means there is the exit, take it.

The very definition of the slippery slope. What happens when the government decides your life is no longer worth living, regardless of your state of mind or circumstances? If you don't think that's coming you simply don't understand what is going on.

[pshift]

Any law passed is another form of control. I agree (in principle) with the law but not that it should be formally "allowed" by NYS law. This is just another disguised attempt to control medical costs and has nothing to do with compassion on the part of government.

Ask those in the UK when the government said your life isn’t worth saving because it costs too much. They do this to save money. Universal health care is great isn’t it.

Hell, this is just phase 1, Phase 2 they will make that decision for you, cuz government, they know what's best for you.

You will never see the mentally defective being culled for two reasons. In this area mental retardation is big business, one of the largest employers in the county. A huge amount of the "clients" are registered voters. We are not talking about goofy Jimmy down the street that always wants to show you his batman shirt and feels empowered that he is a citizen,. We are talking moderate to profound retardation. I have seen non-ambulatory, unable to self feed or speak voting. They have no concept of government, voting, or can even do it unassisted. We all know how that goes with assistance.

It didn't occur to me at the time, but my Mother was in a Nursing Home of I'd guess 250 residents: I wonder how many of them "voted" without ever leaving the grounds?
A tenement of Citizenship is the Right to Vote, and I believe with having Citizenship one should have a vested interest, "skin in the game" if you will BEFORE being afforded all it provides opposed to being given everything just because you were legally Born here...I believe there was a time when you had to be a property owner or other prerequisites to be able to Vote and Sit on a Jury (which now days folks will go to all lengths to avoid)
Something akin to being a "Property Owner" in the US could be leveraged into Citizenship or at least a viable path, same as Military Service...most of us aren't against immigration, just pissed about the people that cut the line and bypassed a well structured and available system to come here legally.

[tirwin1]

Another horror story from Canada.

My mum needed help not euthanasia but we couldn't stop her death

Sisters Alicia and Christie Duncan were originally only granted 48 hours notice that their mother was going to be euthanised.

www.dailymail.com

A clearly mentally ill woman was given expedited path to death. This is why there will never be a good solution to this problem.

It's a slippery slope based on Man's Law, and forbidden in God's Law.
We're watching our Son die from cancer, so I get it, the logical side says yes there are times and I understand the desire, the self imposed need, and even the pain...but I still think it's wrong to deliberately end ones Life.
