Entanglement means an obligation, not a temporary partnership.
WWI happened because Europe was a tangled web of mutual defense pacts. When one minor noble nobody had heard of got killed it all unraveled into the first war fought on a global scale at an industrial pace.
If France had wanted to team up just to deal with the Barbary pirates, Washington would have been all over that deal.

I'm half suprised Trump cancelled Thursday night strikes with indications of B2s and refuel tankers already airborne. Tonight was gearing up to be have a significant target count after CentCom meetings yesterday.
Previous press releases keep indicating Iran negitiators, or Iran legislators or other Muslim Countries have got Trump to back down when wheels were in motion a few times. It feels like groundhog day anymore.

Yeah, nightly raids on Tuesday and Wednesday striking about 20 targets each night. There were plans for a significant target expansion and larger "messages".
When Iran agreed to some undisclosed terms in a MOU, Trump called off the Thursday missions.
We'll see. I don't have much faith in any negotiations involving opposing "parties" plagued with pathological radical obsessions that are stronger than their survival instinct.
It also looks like the politicians, clerics, or the normal military leadership don't have much control or influence over the fractured IRG units that seem to respond like independent well resourced rogue groups.
