Processing broccoli
Green beans
Green peppers

Trying to get what we can do before we leave for vacation end of next week
While we are gone my boy can have at what's ripe

Broccoli will be past by then
Peppers should be a blazing red

Taters are flowering nicely
Dry beans podding up
Dry corn forming nice ears

First strawberry harvest coming this week. They look pretty good and most are producing. I’ll harvest about 10 strawberries this week. I’m happy with that since I planted them 5 weeks ago.
Updated to add photos. Now that I know it works and the fungus is under control I will buy more to replace those lost and add another tube or two of stuff, mostly strawberries though. I’ll use 6” drain line this time.
I don’t like to use anything on my stuff at home but I had to use some spray to get rid of the fungus. I hope I’m done with that now. I’ll spray the new plants upon arrival with it.
Update. I harvested 2-3 yesterday and another 5-6 today. They are good. They are a tad smaller than expected at the moment but I’m still sorting the watering frequency and I was away. Their babysitter allowed them to become the Sahara desert so that’s likely why. As for production, everyone says it will increase after 6-12 months. It’s projected that each plant will yield about 2-3 lbs a year. Considering I’ll have 40-50 plants that’s about 100 lbs a year or 2 pounds per week. That should be good for my family.

We’ve been eating and putting up tons of zucchini. The green beans are so prolific we can hardly keep up with eating and preserving them for winter. Our tomato’s are starting to come on strong now. I grew an heirloom purple cherry tomato this year just to see how it would do and I’m impressed to say the least. This thing is huge ! It’s roughly 5’+ tall and loaded with purple cherry tomatoes that ripen with a mottled look to them and are they Tasty !

Those tomatoes are loaded for you! I have some veranda tomatoes that are doing very well for me. Super easy to grow and stay small hence the name. I love growing them. They get about 12-15” tall and about dinner plate around. Super easy, no pruning either.
Been a slow start. I’m picking peppers, tomatoes, cukes, squash, zucchini, black berries, and some herbs.
I’m still getting strawberries, but while I was on vacation and my family watching them let them dry out the berries didn’t grow at all from that time frame. I must have cut off 75 strawberries the size of a pea. That hurt and I was surely looking forward to them.
I plan to add two more 5’ long tubes that are 6” around instead of 4” around. I have the space and the light spreads that wide so why not maximize it out because it will cost me $130 to start it up and nothing more once it’s going outside the water and fertilizer. Still sorting the fertilization out perfectly. I water heavily about every 4-5 days with a small light watering in between. Been good so far and I’m happy. I even have some carrots in the tubes just to toy with.

I canned my first batch of candied jalapeños last night. Three pints. It took approximately 2 1/4 lbs. of jalapeños. ( They cook down quite a bit when they’re candied. )

I burned my strawberries. The pH was high so I had a bit of chlorosis so I added some fertilizer and I added some apple cider vinegar to the water to drop it from an 8 to a 5. I also did a foliage spray that had iron and calcium, but didn’t read far enough. I didn’t notice it had 13% potassium and I had just added some potassium a week ago go. Oh well, live and learn. They still look 50/50 for most of them. Some still look great. I’m going to upgrade from 4” tubes to 6” tubes and that will help keep the moisture more consistent as well. I’m having to water them every 3-4 days so that’s too frequently. My water is high ph and high calcium.

I have 10, 6" x 10' I am thinking of for Hydro or have (verm, perl, coco) I use to make potting soil with. Was going to do an A frame stand. What other than strawberries are / would you grow and are you keeping it inside?

Nothing yet, but I am planning on doing some veranda tomatoes from burpee as well. I grow them from seed and have tomatoes every year before I toss them in the ground. I may also do some lettuce and some spinach as well. I like spinach. I may also do some Parisian carrots because they are small round ones like radish’s. Yes, this will all be inside under lights.
Keep us posted and good luck.
I’m super pissed at myself because Lowe’s has 6”x10’ schedule 40 pipe listed for $32.97. I waited because I was going to pick it up this weekend. Well it must have been a pricing error and now it went up to $62.00 per piece. I passed. I bought some 6” by 2’ for $12.00 each. I figure then I can move them around as well. I know it equals out to about the same price but so much easier to work with and these are black.

Well the season is winding down, but I’m going to keep something’s going all winter long in my basement. I’m growing some strawberries, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and maybe a few other things in my basement.
I finally figured out why my strawberries were starting to die off. It’s because of how hard my water is. The minerals left behind as the water evaporated and I rewatered them was so much that it was killing them. Yellowing leaves and so many minerals that they were burning the leaves. The leaves literally smelled burnt. I bought an RO for them and other plants and they are doing so much better. It’s amazing the difference after a few weeks.

we let our garden go as we all our time was devoted to health care...surprisingly (to the little girls) they planted some melon seeds in a dirt/manure mound I had pushed up on the edge of the fence and they grew! Wife put garlic bulbs into a mound on the other side a few weeks ago and I tilled about half under before the tines overloaded with vines; should finish it off before it gets too cold.

I like it when the season winds down, but I hate it at the same time. I love growing as much as I do, but I think if I did that much year round I’d hate it.
