One of the cool things about the FCC is anything that operates using radio technology in the USA is mandated to have filings with the FCC. IE. you can absolutely 100% see what capabilities the device has.

This is the Flock Safety Falcon-style camera, the common one you are seeing put up everywhere.

Documented Falcon hardware includes:
  • FCC ID N7NRC76B — Sierra Wireless RC7611 LTE Cat-4 cellular module.
  • FCC ID WCBN3510A — Lite-On Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module.

You can read about those FCC registered items here:

So yes, the devices 100% do have the capabilities mentioned.

Correct, they have radios in them. The question being are they sniffing all wireless data like is fearporn claimed or is it for diagnostic and communication like claimed by the manufacturer?
I am not quite sure what the hubbub is even about. If you carry a cellphone other than something exotic like a Pinephone, you already know you are being tracked and spied on at all times regardless of the settings you think you might have set. Its just the difference of which private company is tracking you and what they are doing with that information. .

For a cell phone to function at all, your cell provider has to have all of that.

If you're not comfortable with that, don't have a cell phone.

Who they share it with is something else you just have to trust them with.

It doesn't matter much how bad that is, it's not something you can change.

1) You can carry a cell phone by choice and either turn it off or leave it behind whenever you want. you can't do that with Flock.
2) Just because one item is tracking you doesn't justify the breach of your privacy by another.
3) companies should not be allowed to profit off of your personal information without the majority of that profit going to YOU, the person who all of that information is about.

I agree with you completely. We are a product to Google, Meta, cell providers, chain stores, etc. Nothing more.

The question which they have conveniently circumvented by being a private company is does this violate the 4th.

It violated the 4th when they allowed police to access the information without a warrant.
They violated quite a few other laws when they kept and sold that information without giving the person involved the option to demand its deletion.

Every person injured (physically, emotionally, mentally) due to Flock's mishandling of that person's private information should sue Flock for 5x whatever their gross income was for that year, as well as demand the arrest and prosecution of every Flock employee involved in the mishandling of that info.

As well people injured by this should be demanding the firing of any official, whether police or political, who allowed this to happen, and suing them for all they are worth.

this doesn't go away until it becomes painful for the Powers That Be. (oh, to be a Flock employee when some politician drives somewhere to fornicate with someone other than his/her spouse)

For any company you deal with, you are either the customer or the product.

How much do you pay for Google or Facebook?

If you're not paying you're not the customer.

That's what's so scary about "universal health care".

Yeah, I'm not sure if they are or aren't, just pointing out that the capabilities are 100% there.

That being said, hypothetically if I was running a surveillance device, that's one of the things I would do. The more data points you can pair and link together the stronger your surveillance is. I'd be tracking MAC IDs of devices. Not foolproof since some devices randomize, but more data points is better. Also those built in car wifi hotspots that they all seem to have but almost nobody subscribes to generally do not rotate MAC ID. Even if they did rotate MAC IDs, for functionality purposes their SSID broadcast does not change = easy to track.

It seems that the anti ICE crowd, and BLM are the major ones complaining about the cameras. That ICE can come in to a municipality and watch illegals come and go, and DEA can watch BLM and Hispanic drug gangs is true.

Criminals fear the cameras, and in the ghettos cameras are regularly destroyed........WTF would they do that?

How many of you have dash cams? Millions do.
Verizon even offers fleet camaeras and storge.

Gunstores are required to have working camera systems...............do you wear a mask inside one?

I'll bet you will take issue when the commie Democrats take control and use a camera to spy on your house. Maybe they will notice your ass bought too much soda at the grocery store as well.

FWIW I find the hubbalo about the cameras pretty funny, people botching and moaning about MuH pRiVaCy pay 100 a month for the privilege of carrying around a $1200 surveillance brick thats recording everything they do and everywhere they go.

Are your dashcam or the camera in the gun store linked to a giant nationwide database that's regularly data mined ?

And this is *not* just a problem for left wing miscreants. The vast majority of people on the right don't want to live in a massive surveillance state either.

We would be cutting the things down left and right too if we didn't have more to lose from getting caught.

I am sure the ATF can log into a gun shops surveillance system to ensure compliance.

What makes you think that surveillance system is even online to be logged into remotely ?

The cheapest and easiest way to comply is to install a local only system that records to a hard drive in the office.

If the ATF gets a warrant they can show up on site to view it, but they can't just log in any time.

I know a much better adversarial pattern that can prevent surveillance cameras from detecting anyone.

Full camo, face and hands covered, with a sawzall.

*note for our uninvited overlord observers: I have not done this. this is merely a representation of what is already in the news.

Sawzall is slow and noisy.

If you're going to do that make a specialty tool that can drop them fast and quiet.

Something like giant bolt cutters/ jaws of life sort of thing.

Although, I wonder. I hear the poles are aluminum. Might be able to just scratch them and then add some gallium. Thing will dissolve over time and collapse after you are gone.

This.

I use Zoneminder for my cameras. Local not cloud storage. Standard RTSP protocol so it's vendor agnostic in terms of camera selection. Go ahead, seize it Mr. ATF agent. It's password protected at the drive level via encryption so if you de-power it to take it good luck ever getting into it.
