Sure enough, Hodgdonreloading.com has data for a 153 grain Hornady A-Tip, which is very much a long, sleek spitzer bullet. I would bet that the jam length for that 155 grain Lapua is shorter than minimum COAL Hodgdon lists using that bullet.
As far as I know, the 6.5 Swede and 6.5 Creedmoor share the same bullet diameter. If you're worried about that, take that bullet and one you know is meant for a 6.5 CM (pull it from a factory round if you have to), and measure their diameters at the base.
Also, to contradict what I previously...
Looks like it would make a great hunting bullet. Everyone gave good advice, but I want to reiterate what Carlos Hathcock said about making sure it doesn't jam in the lands. In this regard, I would suggest loading up a dummy round long and intentionally jamming it to see what your jam length is...
For sure, I definitely agree with that. The fact is, I'm excited about admittedly incremental changes, nothing earth-shattering like caseless ammo or a plasma rifle in the 40-watt range.
But I think we live in great times when it comes to gun tech, even if the prices do suck. We have reliable...
So with Shot Show sort of happening, lots of industry players are putting out their new things. It reminded me of a couple of things I've been paying attention to and am interested in watching develop. Is there any development in firearms, ammo, or accessories you're excited about or interested...
Honestly, most of those aren't all that oddball.
But yea, I agree. This is a middle-ground between the 9mm and the .380 when it comes to power with more capacity than either. In a capacity-restricted state, that makes no sense to me. In a free state, I can see someone who's recoil-sensitive...
That sucks, but rows can still give you a great back, especially combined with lat pulldowns. My best was a perfect form 27, overhand. At the time I had a separated shoulder, so I hung about an inch lower on one side than the other. After getting surgery and a 6 month recovery where I was told...
Supplies are out there. Prices are expensive. You'll still likely have trouble getting specific powders or primers, but you'll often be able to find something that will work and may be able to find what you exactly need with some effort.
With .300 Blackout, you're probably good. I just made my...
May be the last day I get to hunt deer this year (I might go out to Long Island once for their special January season) and I only went out 3 other times during rifle season.
The whole day has been foggy and wet. The woods are dead silent. Pretty eerie but very cool. Didn't see anything from the...
Very cool. I just learned about the .204 Ruger on Vortex's podcast. Seems like a sweet round to load for and shoot. Those are some real screamer velocity readings.
Most things that I get dressed up for, I'm also going to be drinking at, so I'm rarely strapped when I'm dressed to the nines. When I do, it's usually my S&W 642 Airlite.
Now if my gun was going to be part of the attire, it would be my S&W 629 wearing wood stocks in its black, scale-embossed...
For jacketed handgun bullets, I tend to prefer Hornady XTPs. They're a good value, being that they're controlled-expansion hollow-points for around the same price as FMJs. When I want cheap, I go for coated hardcast bullets from Missouri Bullet Co.
For my rifles, I also like Hornady. The...
One of these is definitely on my list of AR mods. Pretty short list. It's a lightweight handguard and that. I'd love to turn my .300 Blackout into a lightweight, handy hunting rig, and I truly hate fixed mags.
If she had just shot the guy without yelling out, on camera, "TASER,TASER, TASER," and "I grabbed the wrong fucking gun", she would be walking free right now, likely without even being disciplined, since it wouldn't have been wrong.
Two thoughts:
1) What you say after a lethal encounter (and...
Yea, they're all over now. The first one I ran into had all the primers and powders I wanted in stock and at pre-pandemic prices.
The payment options are the dead giveaway. Bitcoin or gift cards only, aka payment options that require no address and where you 100% cannot get your money back...
I haven't done pull-ups routinely since I got out of the Marine Corps. I decided to look at what PFT standards are these day. So I want to get back to being able to get a 100 at the pullups event. That means a max set of 23 pull-ups.
I went back to the old tool that got my pull-up numbers up in...
Hahahahaha! So the Second Amendment protects your individual right to self defense by guaranteeing the ability to keep and carry means of self-protection for the stated purpose of protecting our collective freedom.
She doesn't like that. So she rewrites it so that there is a vague reference to...
What's the saying? "A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged."
Not true at all, but I'm sure current events will have some effect on our political pendulum.
I think it's biologically impossible for me to not to tweak a rifle or handgun. There's just something wired in me that can't leave good enough alone. All my handguns have at least a lightly polished trigger and upgraded sights.
As for my rifles, fuggedabouddit. Even my sidelock, percussion cap...
It's cool that these are starting to be imemented, but there's a long way to go before they become useful, and a helluva long way before I pay $4k for one.
The big difference is that gun ownership is explicitly enumerated as a civil right under the Constitution, where abortion is not and may soon lose the Supreme Court's blanket protection.
Really shows these people's disgusting mindset though. "That anti-abortion law is an intolerable violation...
Don't worry, I said he looked up the unSafe Act, not that he understood it all.
But yea, I mean, you can hardly blame the guy. I've seen people at ranges, including government-owned ones, with guns that violated our nonsensical laws. I've also heard plenty of people saying that things are...
So... Is anyone gonna tell him, or does everyone here have a grudge against his dog?
In all seriousness, this guy seems to have looked up the NY unSafe Act, but be totally unaware of Federal laws.
Just saw the video is unavailable now. Guessing someone informed him and he took it down.
Damn, I used to be a member, but haven't been since they closed for the lockdown last year. About time to go back. Those old timers there have given me a wealth of great shooting tips.
I haven't seen $100 yet, but between $25-75 is what I've seen it go up to since the Rona panic started. Most places raised their prices. I definitely get it for handguns since (at least in Westchester), theymight be storing that piece for you for anywhere from weeks to months. That takes up...
I didn't like the M9 when I qualed it in the Marines, but it was the second time I had ever shot a handgun. The particular example was kinda junky, the DA and SA trigger pulls were junk, the grip felt huge, and I found it hard to translate rifle fundamentals to handgun fundamentals. Ended up...
Have you heard of still hunting? It's where you move through the woods extremely slowly. A few quiet paces, stop, observe, wait, observe, move, rinse and repeat.
If stand hunting hasn't been working, plot a trail you can move quietly and extremely slowly through throughout the day. Take the day...
I knew it wasn't actually metric, just used with metric, but wow, thanks for explaining it that way. That instantly makes a lot of things about that system make way more sense.
They're angle measurements used to measure accuracy and correct for bullet trajectory.
MOA stands for minute of angle, and is the American system. Roughly it works out to 0.5" at 50 yards, 1" at 100 yards, 2" at 200 yards, and so on.
MILs stands for milliradian, and is metric. It's 5cm at 50m...
I like the butchering process. I tend not to know what I want when I talk to a butcher. When I do it myself, I figure out what kind of cuts I want as I break it down. This year I had to take it to a butcher since I'm in the process of moving, but next year it's back to doing my own.
Also...
Very nice load and great performance. Game Kings definitely deserve their reputation.
The 140 grain Hornady Interlock I used did well. It was a double-lung shot on a textbook broadside. At ~70 yards, it put big holes in the ribs, turned the lungs to jelly, left a large exit on the hide, and the...
Very nice deer. Out of curiosity, what round did you use and where did you hit it? I've never seen a wound like that. Is that coagulated or bubbling lung blood in the picture?
Like many of you, opening day was very slow for me. I saw a tiny yearling doe in the morning. Changed stands and then saw what I think was the same doe in the evening. My hunting buddies were in the same boat. They saw a few spikes, small does, one saw a small bear, but nothing that would be...
Nice load and great results. I worked up a hunting load for this season of a 130 grain Hornady Interlock over a middle weight charge of IMR4955 for 2955 fps. I'm sure it'll work as well as any factory .270 load. Looking at my chrono readings from the ladder test, with 4 rounds out of a 22"...
I didn't see it with my own two eyes, but it was on their printout of powders in stock. I bought two lbs of IMR 4064 myself and didn't take the last jug. I also saw several lbs of IMR 4895 in that cabinet even though I don't remember it being listed on their in-stock sheet.
Actually regret not...
