Is there a provision allowing local governments to make their own laws? If not, they might have just inadvertently struck down a lot of local laws-lol
And the moron doesn’t realize that criminals spray paint their toy guns black to look real and, on occasion, their real guns to look like toys.
What are going to be the court’s remedy to all these states and judges intentionally going against their ruling?
This judge went against their ruling :
They could appoint a “special judge” to enforce their decision if the courts continue their revolt.
One judge of the appeals court who ruled...
A case is up for review before the court where Washington DC revoked a permit on subjective grounds then when they were going to lose the court case, granted him his permit at the last second to make the case moot. He is still appealing to SCOTUS. It might effect NYS and CA new laws
Nope. But we were talking about off duty cops in general . So if the local cop had to go to the fair unarmed, it would be a problem.
And I don’t know Syracuse but I do know what comes to a state fair. All sorts.
I also know where I have run into people I have arrested while out of state on...
Great. I’m not for it but not against it. I would just want something to say the guy in front of me with a gun isn’t a felon . Hence my support of shall or must issue standards. But I’m fine with it. I also think teachers should be allowed to be armed.
No one on this site is against...
Different atmosphere and I’m not local ie they know the cops from there. But people have asked me. They like cops there. Very pro-cop area. And a Trump hat would fit right in unlike a lot of the United States. Well armed general population in general. A polite society-lol Red part of the state...
But just getting more to your point . NYPD cops can carry in Madison Square Garden . I can not. All non local cops can’t carry. I could say it’s because they are more easily confirmed as cops . I could say that it’s because they know the procedures etc. But I think it’s the danger coming in...
Okay, I see what you are saying. But if that cop who pulls over speeded all day ends up off duty near Portland and is recognized as a cop by an Antifa member what is likely to happen? But you are right. In general, on the surface, that cop would seem to have less of a risk.
But even minor...
I said most veterans . I didn’t say combat veterans . Most veterans never saw or ever came close to combat but get those same benefits of those who did .
The problem with some of these stats are how they are recorded. Off duty assaults on officers proven related to the profession are recorded . Simple assaults of retired and non LEO are not collected nationally. It’s not one of the seven majors .
Police departments don’t want to record assaults...
Good luck to you. Unlike you, I find this stuff entertaining if there is some intelligence to the argument especially if I disagree with. It must be that I come from a family of academics and lawyers who love these debates. Glad you realize that if you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Really? Most veterans have never seen combat. Most veterans, even in sent to sandboxes were never directly fired upon. Most aren’t combat arms but support.
No twisting . It’s what you communicated. If you can’t have , either should the cops . As opposed we should have what they have. Go back and read your own posts. Go read your trolling .
Just how people like you want to take away from others what you don’t have. And that we do have a higher threat .
Ironically, when I go to the fair in the free state of PA , I obey the no firearm signs without a problem. Very little chance of running into that specific threat there. But I have...
How am I losing anything? You have been a troll for a long time now.
I still get to carry with or without this new law. I’m for civilian carry and I don’t get the exemptions that active cops get anymore . I would love to get them back.
My only argument here was in general the threat to law...
The anti-cop sentiment is stronger in some areas than others. In redneck areas they tend not to mess with police unless it’s personal. In Portland, they burn down police stations . In the housing projects , they drop bricks from the roof on cops who haven’t had time to make personal enemies . A...
And thank you for showing your true colors again.
You are a person who wants to take away stuff active and retired have out of spite. That’s honest .
You called me disingenuous. I was speaking about retired officers vs permit holders when you decided to comment. Go back and read it if you don’t...
List out the other exemptions under state law that a retired police officer gets that a permit holder doesn’t ? Please do. I would like to know what you think they are? And not under this new BS law that’s not in effect yet
The clock doesn’t stop for an off duty officer . He still has to act if certain crimes are done in his presence including on school grounds or even outside his geographical area of employment if he or she is in New York State.
As far as retired cops, if you had a full carry permit you had...
Just that one ? You mean the magazine exception for my service gun— and only that one. The one that sits in the safe and only comes out for LEOSA requals. That one. I thought you would list all the others.
Ahm, you assume that the retired police officer isn’t that old lady or old man or that 100 pound female. It’s not what it used to be.
As far as being alert, I used to be. Medical issues and just being out of the game have diminished those skills. Doesn’t make me less of a target if I wear...
As in which special treatment? Do you think military veterans should get any special treatment too? I have seen more “ combat “ ( shots fired, death , and been in more dangerous situations ) than most military veterans .
You get a free membership to BJ’s? Damn it. I didn’t get that -lol
I got discounts to a few places but did so did all government workers , not just cops . And some unions have a discount set up with the companies but so do a lot non police unions.
Some are if ruled in the performance of duty at some point. For example, an off duty officer is targeted and the guy says get that cop as in the one example I already gave. That would be on the FBI stat for officers assaulted. If not proven to be “ duty related “. It would go into the general...
That’s not what happened. Go look at the video again .The partner wasn’t complicit even if you believe it was planted.
And internal affairs love to arrest cops . They don’t report to the same supervisors as those cops do. They get points, overtime and “ promotions “ ( detective shields ) based...
Go look at them per captia.
FBI stats :
The rate of officer assaults in 2019 was 11.8 per 100 sworn officers. (See Table 80.)
Do you think 1out ten people are assaulted in the US each year?
2141 were assaulted with a firearm in 2019 out of 56141 recorded assaults. They lived so they aren’t on...
Apparently it did . How do you think we got the exception to this new law. The limited exception to the over 10 round magazines for retired cops ?
And if pro-2A crime victim groups got together and lobbied, they would get exceptions too. Exceptions that would cover a lot more people .
Most incidents of vandalism against cops unless directly tied to the job aren’t on those reports . Basically if it happens on the street and not the cop’s parking lot or there isn’t an actual message saying an anti cop message, it’s not recorded as such.
Cops can be victims of crime too and...
Yep. And when we took the job we were told you get to carry pretty much anywhere and in retirement.
I am dealing with it. I still get to carry pretty much everywhere with some exceptions. And I’m told that I can carry at the fair.( it’s unconfirmed)
Should I say,” deal with it “ even though that...
Do you want me to tell you the truth or what? It is true. Criminals know what our use of force rules are. Go ahead and point a gun at a burglar. Who did you think they fear more . A cop or you, the armed homeowner? Clearly, you because you don’t have that same use of force issue or they don’t...
Each cop or when you go into work to hear what happened to one of your coworkers? Car vandalism? Often . New rookies who advertised in some manner that they were a cop- often. When I was young and single and we went out to a club or bar to pick up women, you could not say you were a cop without...
It’s just a sucker punch if screened for weapons and they don’t get a chance to improvise like a beer bottle. It happens on occasion even when they know we are armed.
That too. But the threat is greater. That’s the only argument I’m making . It’s not about someone who has no threat not being able to carry. I’m all for them being able to get a permit and carry ( real edc carry and not the abomination that comes in September).
The danger is that an attack of opportunity would occur. Some criminal recognizes the person as an off duty/retired cop and just sucker punches them or worse knowing they are unarmed at the event. They attack cops just for being a cop and not actually having had a previous interaction with them...
