Yeah great and I guarantee there are cars that have no business being on the road. It's $21 once a year to make sure your car isn't falling apart. Not a big ask. Especially if you've seen the cars I have seen over the years. Sure there are obviously a lot more requirements these days regarding emissions, but if you are determined there are certainly ways around that. Do you really think all those Challengers, Chargers, Camaros and rowdy CTS-Vs are all emissions compliant? As far as dwa12479 said, I also think that there are some instances where regulations should be stricter. especially when it comes to tires here in WNY. Saying brakes can be metal to metal is absolutely untrue. So if you're doing inspections, you're doing it wrong.

Here in SC, there are no vehicle inspections whatsoever. And NO,- It is a very rare occasion when I see some run down ass vehicle on the road here.

They shouldn't.

They should be rounding up *identified illegals*, not randomly stopping people to check them.

That would be the equivalent of cops being allowed to pull you over to do their own roadside vehicle inspection because your car "looked run down"

I understand your point.

I still think it's wrong.

I get that you see a lot of sketchy cars.

But the fact remains, plenty of other states are just fine without the state mandating inspections.

We *don't* have tons of accidents caused by poorly maintained cars. It just doesn't happen the way you claim it will.

And even in NY, the people who will drive rolling death traps aren't even slightly dissuaded by the inspection requirements. They just drive them anyway and risk the tickets.

It's exactly the same way the onerous NY pistol permit requirements don't keep guns out of rhe hands of the bad guys.
