This image is actually a promotional still from a 1919 silent Hollywood movie titled Auction of Souls (also known as Ravished Armenia). The scene was filmed on a beach in Santa Barbara, California. The individuals seen on the crosses are hired actresses, not real victims.

The film itself was an early cinematic effort to raise awareness and funds for orphans of the Armenian genocide by the Muslim Turks.

The actual atrocities committed against Armenian women often involved impalement. Because that reality was considered far too graphic and depraved to show to 1919 theater audiences, the filmmakers opted to substitute it with more tasteful crucifixion.
