Ukraine has mounted another large drone attack against Russia overnight, launching hundreds of drones and once again targeting oil infrastructure and military sites near St. Petersburg.

Videos online appear to show large smoke plumes rising from an oil facility in St. Petersburg’s port. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had successfully hit oil infrastructure in the port as well as military targets around the Kronstadt naval base.

Russia's defense ministry said some 400 drones were involved in the attack.

Ukraine said on Tuesday it hit one of Russia’s largest satellite communication centers for the second time in just over a week, as Kyiv ramps up long-range drone attacks to pressure the Kremlin to end its four-year-old war.

The Dubna Satellite Communications Centre to the north of Moscow, some 500 km (310 miles) from the Ukrainian border, is used for intelligence gathering and the coordination of Russia’s armed forces fighting in Ukraine, President Volodymr Zelensky said.

Russia hasn’t confirmed the Dubna communication center was struck, but the governor of the Moscow region Andrey Vorobyov said a drone had hit an “administrative building” in the town with no reported casualties.

Russia is now rumored to be halting all diesel exports.

This has to hurt.

Between Russia and Iran there is going to be a global oil/diesel shortage.



I remember reading the Tom Clancy book "red storm rising" many years ago and the plot essentially was soviet/Russian oil refinery's were severely damaged so they knew they were going to be facing a severe oil shortage so they preemptively attacked.

This entire series of events is not unlike what happened with the pre WW2 Japan oil embargo.


I wonder what China thinks of all this. They have to be feeling a pinch.

It's a global commodity, the oil was going somewhere to someone. If that somewhere is no longer able to use the previously embargoed oil because now there is no mechanism to deliver it, they still want and need oil so they will buy it elsewhere competing on the global market.

So my thinking is that global oil consumption demand will only increase while available supply decreases. Some countries and regions will be hit harder than others, but there will be pain. If the pain is severe enough and long enough It might force some countries to make difficult and rash decisions.
