That could make things interesting at some point in time.
New York expands gun storage rules and ammunition-purchase restrictions

Their Jurisdiction ends at private property and the 4th doesn't allow for unlawful search and seizure of private property. Who shall step forward in court and say my property is theirs?

Go through a bad divorce ... They throw everything against the wall to get leverage on you . Have a house keeper see a gun where it should not be . ... You say I am home so I don't have to have it locked up ... But then you take the dog out for his 10 minute break ... You have left the home and the gun is not secure. How many people have a shotgun leaning in a corner behind a door ... That house keeper could jam you up.
We are low hanging fruit . Next thing ... How many people know about this law. I have friends that watch about 10 minutes of national news like fox ... Where are they going to hear about this law ?
Like I have mentioned before................have an emergency...someone fell, is bleeding, having a stroke, small kitchen fire, neighbor complains about you........................exigent circumstances may apply, and an inspection may occur. Call 911, and it is almost guaranteed.
Plan for the worst, and definitely keep a copy of the constitution to throw in any cops face with glue on it, as you are being lead away in cuffs for a safe storage violation.
If it can happen it will...............it is can break, it will, unintended circumstances do occur all the time.

I will contend that the locked doors of my Home constitutes an enormous "locked box" for which my Arms are stored and when I have gun ready within this same container that it is "in use" as a defensive tool irrespective if I have my hand upon it or not...That said, I am responsible for the safety of those entering under my roof and take this responsibility seriously, but you cannot legislate human stupidity nor sensible ideology; these concepts are to be instructed and instilled, not governed.
Again, this Law was passed as homage to the benefactors that wrote it and supply desperately needed campaign contributions to the democrats that sponsored it.

Clearly unenforceable. Pile on charges for criminal defendants. Our system is one of plea bargaining. So the idiots think this law will be a catch all in that.

I get tired of Albany telling me what I can and can't do. And when it comes to what I can do, I'm then told how I have to do it. That doesn't sound like freedom.

Francesco’s Law expands New York’s storage requirements starting January 19, 2027. A biometric safe isn’t mandatory, vehicle storage has separate rules, and the new storage misdemeanor requires actual access plus other statutory elements.
We put together a sourced guide covering the changes, lawful defensive access, and a free printable checklist:
Read the guide New York Gun Storage Law: What Changes January 19, 2027?
What storage questions do you think still need clearer answers? Do these changes make a difference? We don't think so.

Not unenforceable at all...............totally enforceable.
Who gets inspections and when??...................they mystery is ez to solve......................pistol permit holders, AW license holders, and possibly hunters, and MAGA.
I purchased trigger locks in bulk....some with combo, and some with key, and 4 pistol lock boxes. As I can only shoot one gun at a time................and I have a gun room with dead bolt, and a gun safe inside.
It is a pain to keep that gun room locked, but the trigger locks and lock boxes, are as fast as grabbing the gun, and twirling the combo lock.
Intent is part of the law...............

Good for you. When you fart, does it even make a sound anymore?
Wasn’t the previous gun storage laws declared unconstitutional?

New to NYS legislation? LOL. You are correct. Storage; nothing has changed from the subjective requirements they laid out a while ago. My reading the tea leaves makes me feel they are just making a new charge you can have added to but I'm not going to retain a lawyer to figure it out. The second tells me NOTHING as a dealer what ELSE I have to do. I'm using THEIR system to do their over controlling and data collecting requirement. Should THEY NOT tell ME if there is an issue. Should I now conduct drug testing and interview their family as well for a purchase of 22LR?
More liability for a group of people bearly making any margin as it is. Wonder what the goal is........

...that they continue to tax and fine you for......

PA, NH, VT AND get it a lot more lately from what I see and hear.
When has that ever dissuaded the NY Legislature from passing more of the same Laws?
It's already been tried and will be again, just waiting on a tragedy to roll it out.
The goal is State run Shops the way some States control Alcohol sales within their borders...no independent Dealers (if you can really call them that)

S.7236 was signed October 21 and took effect immediately (Chapter 316). It adds an express denial rule to the existing ammunition background check.
Key points:
NY Ammo Law 2026: S.7236 Denials, Delays & Appeals
Will this accomplish anything? Did we really need more red tape?
Key points:
- A required ammo check must now be denied if the buyer is prohibited from possessing a rifle or shotgun under New York Penal Law, federal 18 U.S.C. §922(g), or a temporary or final extreme risk protection order (CPLR Article 63-A).
- Temporary red-flag orders count.
- Holding a New York pistol license does not exempt you from the regular ammo check.
- The ordinary purchase process (in-person transfer + check) itself did not change.
- If you get Denied, you have 30 days to appeal under Executive Law §228(8).

There are too many guns to make this a regular inspection.
Circumstances that may warrant an inspection, besides the run of the mill 911 calls, are increasing.
Lock-em up.....cheap insurance. Comply.
Fate often springs circumstances on you that are totally unexpected.

Added charge when a revolving door offender strikes again, Red Flag calls (over 45 a month) with Fredos making calls. Doesn’t have to be all owners to cause pain to the community.

Quickly has been a five year life of late.
As someone who has an Ammunition Dealers Licenses, I have received ZERO GUIDANCE, notifications, or any correspondence from NY/NYSP.

Same here. It’s all in the NYS NICS logic I assume.
If I could afford a housekeeper, I sure wouldn't be living in NYS!!!

In the landmark 2008 decision District of Columbia v. Heller, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote the 5–4 majority opinion ruling that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm unconnected with militia service, including for self-defense inside the home. [1, 2]
Key Ruling on Gun Storage
Key Ruling on Gun Storage
- Striking Down Storage Restrictions: The Supreme Court struck down a District of Columbia requirement that all functional firearms in the home—including rifles and shotguns—be kept unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock. [1, 2]
- Self-Defense Justification: Justice Scalia reasoned that rendering a firearm inoperable through mandatory trigger locks or disassembly prevents citizens from using it for the "core lawful purpose" of immediate self-defense in their homes. [1, 2]
- Limits on the Right: Scalia emphasized that the Second Amendment right is not unlimited, noting that the decision does not cast doubt on longstanding regulatory measures, such as prohibitions on firearms in sensitive places (like schools and government buildings) or conditions on commercial sales
On this forum a while back, an older man in the north country area, living alone, was arrested for safe storage violations.
His conviction on a misdemeanor, is likely fact.
Stand on your rots................... or lock up.
Do not lose the keys to the trigger locks, or forget the combo. I do not believe that they can test the trigger lock, or attempt to unlock it, or demand to see what is in your gun safe of locked cabinet......unless they are there--- on your wife's divorce complaint, and are there to take all of your guns. Piss off a lib neighbor who fears for her life?? HAHA
A neighbor of mine lost all of his guns for 18 months, until the divorce was final.................he was forced to move out for those 18 months, on top of it all..........
Cost him a bundle to get his house back.
Scalia did not address divorce and guns.

More and more, keeping guns away from all, except burglars is the trend.
Burglars have special rots to break in steal them, due to rampant racism..and IF they were not safely stored, you can read about guns on line, maybe, afterwards.
