MAC mentioned Paul Harrell and this is his test on the 357 vs 38 much different result. I believe the magnum is more powerful that than 38 and 9mm in any gun but imo the magnum is un-shootable in the 340PD. A 9mm 340PD would be the perfect in between and with the 9mm ammo options form low...
I have been yelling for S&W to make a 9mm 340 for a long time. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
Shooting 357 out of that 340 PD is ridicules, and I could tell stories...
The j-frame is a great tool now that MAC gave it some love the tactical commandos just might give revolvers a little respect...
This sight has a map to show what states permits where. For me I dont need anything after PA
Concealed Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps (Updated July 27, 2018)
Cool, I went out to shoot the 200 yard rifle challenge last week and my printer died so I could not print the target. I would have needed some luck to win that this month tho.
A friend has one and it works ok. It does take a little tinkering with. His came with the auto disc powder drop that I dont like at all. I believe most come with the auto drum which id tons better imo. Depending on how much ammo you need to make the classic turret lee press may be a good...
The red dots are awesome!!! It does take a bit to get good at finding the dot and some are turned off by at first and give up on it.
On my G34 that I use for uspsa I started with the irons and used it for 3 or 4 matches. I put a dot on it and my scores improved dramatically the first time...
That is a killer G34!!!!! Maybe I will get mine ported.
I found the ports are no issue in the dark. I buddy has a g22 factory ported and we tried it in the dark, no difference. Also shot it side by side with a nonported and it did make a difference in recoil control.
a tungsten guide rod is about 1.25 more than stock and helps with flip so the close to 2 oz hanging off the end of the barrel should make a pretty notable difference even if the gas release doesent.
I dont know a lot about compensators but wonder it the affects of this are due to the added weight, since it does not direct the gasses up pushing the barrel down.
I looked it up that is pretty cool and and best yet a G34 holster will work with it. It would be nice to see some independent reviews to know if it actually makes a difference.

It is more powerful any way you cut it. The fastest 147 grain 9s just crack 1000 fps and many 155 grain and heavier are well over that and sone are over 1100 fps.
The OP is asking about buying a new pistol, and you are trashing the caliber, without even knowing what the intended purpose is...
I dont mind loading mags at the range and have found the 3 mags at the range is enough. If its a carry pistol having mags with carry ammo is good so they dont need to be used for range use, how many do you carry? If its for bug out consider how much weight and bulk you want to have in mags...
To the OP if you think you want a 40 S&W get one. Nothing wrong with it, some guys are emotional attached to 'their' caliber and feel everyone else should see the world the same way they do.
Compared to 9mm the ammo is more expensive and there is more recoil, but it is typically a bigger...
Quoted from your source
Permanent cavity can be increased by the use of expanding bullets, and/or larger diameter bullets, which have adequate penetration.
Bullet selection should be determined based on penetration first, and the unexpanded diameter of the bullet .
Given adequate penetration...
LCP 2 is nicer, I shoot it about the same as my custom tho. My custom is not fun to shoot 3-4 mag at most for me. But the custom is a little smaller and lighter which I like.
By my math a 45 is 25% larger that a 9mm to me that is substantial.
Capacity of a Glock 21 is 14 rounds and a Glock 17 is 18 rounds. Yes more but 14 rounds should be able to handle multiple threats, imo.
And your obsession point of barrier penetration that doesent seem to be a stated...
From what I read in the article is shot placement rules, and we all knew that. Then penetration is critical and bullet diameter determines the permanent wound cavity. Nothing new there.
A while back I was able to fire both back to back and I noticed the 30s was much lighter but more felt recoil. I did not shoot them enough to not a difference in accuracy but the guy who owned them said the 30 was his most accurate Glock and that was common.
yea, 1911s flat out shoot...
I just stated a new thread of my range time tonight. Dont take it too seriously or read too much into it, it far from any scientific test.
Glock 19 & 23 side by side
I was able to have some fun at the range tonight and shot the Glock 19 and 23 back to back. I am not calling this a 19 vs 23 test in any way. I would have liked to use a shot timer app but with the other gunfire in the range it was not possible. I do not own either pistol. They are both Gen...
If I were in charge I would want to have a list of approved pistols and allow the officer to chose what they think is best. Is I stated before I dont believe in a magic bullet, there is pros and cons to them all.
I didnt forget penetration and could find no instance where any agency chose to go to 9mm because 45 was failing to penetrate a barrier....
On a fun note I am heading to the range and should be able to do a glock 19/23 comparison to see how caliber affects my shooting. Nothing scientific
Yes I have been searching very hard and came up with nothing. I was trying to find any agency who stopped using 45 because it was less effective than 9mm, and nothing. The only given reasons to go down in caliber it to gain capacity because of very poor hit percentages, or recoil management...
I have a Hyve on my G34and do like it. I did not choose it, it was on the pistol when I received it. I have yet to have a mag come out unintentionally.
LAPD special unit uses 45 ACP I wonder why?
While the main force of the LAPD uses the Beretta 92 pistol chambered in 9mm, the SIS has chosen to issue the .45 ACP cartridge for its detectives. While most police pistols are “carried a lot but fired a little,” that is not the case for the SIS...
