An even more difficult question to honestly and uncomfortably consider, is those who are yelling the loudest for reparations, do you believe if they actually got them it would be helpful or harmful?

Ever see the multitude of stories on "broke lottery winners" who claim winning the lottery ruined their lives? There are many many people who have terrible financial awareness and decision making skills and falling into sudden wealth is a severe detriment to them.

I think it's uncomfortable to say, but many of the people yelling for reparations, if they actually got them would be a temporary boom and improvement but in short order they would be in worse position than if they never received them.

While Chattel slavery existed in the colonies and in the US, this form was not special on this side of the world.

As for the Jim Crow laws, they did not begin until 1870ish. Not centuries old.

* Self-identification as descended from people enslaved in the United States
* Documented ancestral connection to at least one person enslaved in the U.S. or legally classified within the post-slavery Freedmen population

Because records are incomplete, the proof standard should be preponderance of evidence.
