In what way are we out of time ?

The dems taking the house in the midterms would certainly change the dynamic, but it's not going to fundamentally change the situation.

They can't actually pass anything meaningful without Trump just vetoing it. They're certainly not getting a veto proof majority.

And they can fire up the old impeachment show again, but that's DOA in the senate too.

So, besides making a lot of noise, nothing actually changes there.

The actual military situation in the strait can be maintained until at least the end of Trump's term with little difficulty.

The IRGC keeping control of Iran over that time frame OTOH is a lot more questionable.

I used to think the midterms were a done deal for the Dems.

Then they started shooting themselves in the feet with the whole DSA bullshit. Taking a page right out of the Republican playbook (never let a sure thing play itself out).

Now?
It's iffy. I think the dems have a little more sway, but it is quickly being erased by all the crap they are doing (supporting child killers, socialists, illegal rapists and murderers, etc.).

This doesn't mean the Repubs can sit back and ride out on their laurels. They still need to show they are actually willing to do their jobs. And with Thune as one of their examples they are sorely lacking.

I don’t think a Democrat will vote for anyone outside the democrat ticket while Trump is in office.

How will they do that ?

They can pass a resolution, but that's just the congressional equivalent of a strongly worded letter. It has no actual force behind it.

They can't pass a law, he'd just veto it.

And that's even assuming they get the Senate.

If they just take the house it'll be the impeachment circus for the next 2 years with exactly the same result as the last 2 times.

But, the military will keep doing what Trump tells them to in the middle east. Everything else will just be theater.
